Ilaria Camerini
Hi everyone!
My name is Ilaria, I'm a freelance Conservator based in Rome.
I grow up surrounded by the Cultural Heritage. That's why I felt in love with the Arts since I was a child. In 2014 I graduated at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in Conservation of Cultural Heritage, specialized in paper, books and photographic material Conservation. I first started to work in my home town, Rome, doing internships and working as a freelance on Conservation projects for many private and public Institutions (Vatican Museums, Archivio Storico dell'Arma dei Carabinieri, etc...).
In 2018 I worked in US (NY) at the Rakow Research Library in the Corning Museum of Glass. That experience let me to grow up both professionally and personally. Working in a different country, I learned how to face Conservation issues looking from a "foreign" point of view. Each country has its own culture where the Conservation approach comes from. That's why I find amazing how is important to exchange ideas with colleagues from different countries.
In 2018-2019 I've been working for one year in the UK, at the University of Manchester Library. In UK I learned to be a good team player in a big team and I managed to work on many projects with strict deadlines. I had the chance to be a courier for loans and to work on exhibitions installation. On behalf of the University I promoted some of the projects I was responsible for during conferences and symposiums (May '19, Edinburgh - Oct. '19 Craiova - Nov. '19 London).
It has been a great, motivating and challenging experience!
Today I'm a freelance Conservator. I've my own studio and I collaborate with private and public Institutions in Italy and abroad.
I'm an enthusiastic person and I love my job.
LET'S DISCOVER MORE!
The condition survey is the first step that need to be done before planning conservation treatments. It helps to check the quantity of the items and to have a list of them. The condition report is the "tool" used to do that.
I work on paper and leather artworks, books (manuscript and printed) and photographic materials. The aim of Conservation treatments is to make the artworks “readable” to everybody, now and in the future.
Conservators make the items to be readable and available, for who?
The stakeholder of Cultural Heritage is the whole world.
